Pros
- Open daily
- Reasonable rates
- Offers pickup and dropoff
Cons
- Doesn’t accept card payments
- Only one type of vehicle available
Open every day, Rapid Driving School has been teaching Winnipeggers since 2014. Based on our surveys, they have gained a large number of students over the years, with many achieving an above-average passing rate on their driving tests!
One of the things we admire about them is their ability to teach both nervous and confident students. We highly appreciate their flexibility, particularly when teaching various types of individuals.
Notably, Rapid Driving School has reasonable rates—which we really like! They charge only $65 plus GST for a 60-minute driving lesson, add to that the good teaching quality, and you can get your money’s worth!
In addition to that, we like that they offer other lessons for 90 minutes and two hours. These allow driving students to choose their preferred length, which is an advantage for busy people.
Moreover, they offer a road test package, which we found beneficial for those nervous about the test day. This includes a one-hour lesson and car use on the day of the test, which we feel can boost confidence!
We were also glad to learn that they provide pickups and drop-offs for students. It’s helpful for individuals who may find it challenging to look for transportation.
A small issue is they only use a Toyota Prius for all lessons. On the bright side, there are dual brakes.
We also found it may be inconvenient that they only accept cash and e-transfers as modes of payment. We hope they can add card payments in the future.
2. Phoenix Driving School

Pros
- Offers various lesson packages
- Provides specialized training for anxiety and PTSD
- Reasonable prices
- Pickup and dropoff available
Cons
- Closed on Sundays
- Only one instructor available
Phoenix Driving School only has one instructor but provides individualized lessons for each student. Chris, the owner and instructor, teaches students from 16 to 79 years old, regardless of their skill levels—which we appreciate!
We admire his teaching approach, as he offers specialized training for students who suffer from anxiety or PTSD due to past car accidents. For us, this shows his dedication to helping his students overcome their fears to become confident drivers!
Additionally, he provides guided lesson plans that allow students to progress at their own pace. In our opinion, this approach doesn’t put any pressure and creates a stress-free learning environment.
We were pleasantly surprised at how competitive the prices are! We think the affordability makes Phoenix Driving School attractive to students of all ages.
Furthermore, a one-hour lesson costs only $60, while a 1.5-hour one is $80. Plus, there are driving lesson packages that come at discounted prices!
It’s worth mentioning that Chris offers various classes, including six lessons at 1.5 hours each and road test packages. For a one-man team, we were surprised at the variety.
We also want to mention that he provides pickup and dropoff at the student’s location. It’s convenient, no?
The downside is there aren’t available driving lessons on Sundays, possibly due to having just one instructor. The long operating hours make up for it, though!

Pros
- Offers various driving courses
- Offers online upskilling courses
- Male and female instructors are available
Cons
- Service quality varies per instructor
- Closed on weekends
Established in 1992, Confidence Driving School caught our attention due to the wide variety of services they offer. We also like that the instructors teach beginner and confident drivers, regardless of skill level!
We found it commendable that they have male and female instructors available. For us, this is a definite advantage as it allows students to choose who they feel most comfortable with.
An added advantage is that all their driving instructors are certified by the province of Manitoba. In our opinion, this enhances their credibility and reliability!
They provide driver training in Classes 4 and 5. Some driving schools in Winnipeg only offer limited Class types, so we found this worth mentioning!
A standout service they provide is skill upgrades such as driving in winter conditions and threshold braking. We found it extremely beneficial for beginner drivers, especially those who need to learn how to drive on Winnipeg’s winter roads!
Furthermore, we commend Confidence Driving School for offering online training courses. Their dedication to upskilling drivers and promoting safe driving is remarkable, no?
A disappointing aspect is they’re not available on weekends, which isn’t helpful for those with work or school on weekdays. Also, we were disappointed that the service quality and teaching approach would depend on the driving instructor.

Pros
- 2020 Consumer Choice Award Winner
- Open daily
- Has male and female instructors
- Offers various driving lesson packages
Cons
- Only teaches Class 5 lessons
- Service quality depends on the instructor
What we found impressive about Amar Driving School is it’s the 2020 recipient of the Consumer Choice Award in the Best Driving Schools in Winnipeg. Being recognized as one of the best businesses in Canada is pretty cool!
They are available any day of the week, which is a definite plus! It makes them accessible even on weekends, which is really important for busy students!
Notably, they have male and female driving instructors available, all with years of experience. For us, this is essential as it helps students become more comfortable with their preferred instructor.
Additionally, the instructors teach Class 5 driving lessons in Winnipeg’s north, east, and west areas. This type of licence will allow students to drive most passenger vehicles, including light trucks.
However, they do not provide Class 4 driving lessons, which is something we were expecting from a driving school with multiple instructors.
Moreover, they teach various lesson durations, such as 1-hour, 1.5-hour, and 2-hour options for students seeking quicker classes. But they also offer packages for those who prefer regular learning—which we think is ideal for beginners.
A minor drawback is that the teaching approach and service quality varies depending on the instructor. While that’s understandable, we heard reports of some students requiring more lessons due to these differences.

Pros
- Over 40 years in the industry
- 2x Consumer Choice Award winner
- Has multilingual instructors
Cons
- Closed on Sundays
- Some reports of appointment cancellations
- Some reports of poor miscommunication
Pan Am Driving School has been around for four decades, which our team thinks is a remarkable achievement. All instructors even have a combined 60 years of experience in the industry!
Another impressive achievement is they won the Consumer Choice Award twice, in 2007 and 2018. For us, that speaks about their teaching skills and approach.
However, while we acknowledge the different teaching styles among instructors, some clients we surveyed expressed negative experiences due to poor miscommunication.
On a positive note, we were glad to learn that their instructors are multilingual in English, Punjabi, and Hindi. That’s quite helpful for immigrants and newcomers in Winnipeg!
We also appreciate that they teach students from 16 to those in their 80s. We commend that they can cater to beginner and confident drivers, which we think shows their flexibility.
Additionally, the instructors can pick up students from their location, except on Sundays. It’s highly convenient, especially for those who still go to school or have busy work schedules.
Price-wise, we like their reasonable rates, starting at $65 for a 1-hour class. What’s more, they offer various packages for different driving skill levels.
Unfortunately, our disappointment arose when we heard reports of appointment cancellations. Some had theirs rescheduled at the last minute, which was disheartening to learn.
