Pros

  • Over two decades in the business
  • Has a variety of cuisines
  • Reasonably priced classes

Cons

  • No online cooking classes

Dish Cooking Studio has been teaching Toronto residents since 2000. That’s over two decades of experience, which is an impressive time in the industry.

They’re a famous cooking class service in Toronto, earning recognition on several platforms. They also caught our interest, which definitely speaks about the quality of their service.

We also love that they offer several class options, which help students learn the basics and various cooking methods. A famous one is their hands-on class, which doesn’t have a formal rotation, but we think is a fun and casual option for beginners.

However, don’t expect online classes because they only do in-studio sessions. It’s a bit of a bummer if you’re busy and don’t really want to brave city traffic.

But, on the bright side, we found their cooking classes pretty reasonable in price. Depending on the class, they charge $95 to $155 plus HST per person.

Another thing we like about Dish Cooking Studio is the variety of cuisines they teach. They do Japanese, American, Italian, Spanish, and more!

Plus, their classes are headed by experienced chefs; even past students loved how thorough the teachings were. So, that means you get the best tips and tricks in cooking.

Pros

  • Has two locations
  • Offers classes daily
  • Teaches kids, teens, and adults
  • Reasonably priced
  • Offers baking classes

Cons

  • Currently has no online classes

With two locations in the GTA, The Chef Upstairs makes cooking classes accessible to many Toronto residents who want to up their culinary skills. Their kitchens are located on Mount Pleasant Road and Vaughan.

In addition to that, they have cooking classes every single day! Clearly, there’s no shortage of classes here, which means more students can enroll.

Going back to their accessibility, we found it commendable that they offer kids, teens, and adult cooking classes. Kids as young as seven can study here, which we love because it helps with their creativity and encourages their passion for food.

However, they currently don’t have online cooking classes, and we hope they can bring it back in the future. So, we’re going to have to slash off some points for availability.

On the bright side, we found their rates within the reasonable range. An in-studio cooking class for an adult is only $135 per person, which includes a full meal already.

On top of that, you can learn different types of cuisines here, which can expand your culinary horizons. They have Italian, Thai, French, and Indian cuisines.

An extra feature they offer is baking classes. This is a particular favourite of ours because the class includes different types of bread, like brioche burger buns, pita, and tortillas—it’s a diverse class, no?

Lastly, their chefs are very well-experienced and have impressive credentials. They’ve worked in various restaurants, which gives them a tonne of skills in the field.

Pros

  • Diverse range of class options
  • Offers baking and decorating classes
  • Highly qualified instructors
  • Invites many guest instructors

Cons

  • Minimum of 4 people for private class

The most incredible thing about Gusta Cooking is their wide range of class options. We love that Torontonians can learn cooking and baking here—kind of like an all-in-one place for food enthusiasts.

Furthermore, their offerings include learning culinary basics, cooking world cuisine, cake decorating, and fine pastry arts. It’s really diverse, which makes them accessible to many.

Besides booking a class, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that anyone can initiate a class and others can join. It’s quite unique, and it will go through as long as it meets the required number of students.

There’s a slight hiccup about their private cooking classes, though. They require a minimum of four students, so it’s not ideal for couples.

Now, let’s talk about their instructors because we were impressed with their credentials. The owner and chef, Baron Hau, trained at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in France!

Additionally, we like that they invite guest instructors. Because of this, Gusta Cooking can offer more classes because they invite chefs and patissiers with incredible skills.

Lastly, in terms of cost, we like the value for money you get. There will be varying rates depending on the class, but we love that these are very hands-on, thorough, and headed by experts.

Pros

  • Focuses on sushi-making
  • Has virtual and on-site classes
  • Affordable prices
  • Sushi-making kits are delivered

Cons

  • Limited availability
  • Only one class available

Roll This Way is the place we love for sushi making. We think this is a unique experience in Toronto since not many offer this.

It’s their only class, though, which limits their availability. Another setback is they only have limited slots because they only offer sushi-making weekly.

Nonetheless, we appreciate their seasonal offerings to spice up special occasions. Plus, these classes usually have extra features to add more fun.

Also, it’s convenient that they are available for in-person and virtual group classes. The best part is they will deliver the sushi-making kits across Canada, so there’s no need to do a quick grocery run.

Additionally, their kits will have fresh ingredients that are enough to make 21 to 29 pieces of sushi. That’s a nice meal for leftovers, no?

What’s even better than that is they offer on-site cooking classes in Toronto. This is available at your home or office, which is ideal for parties or corporate events.

Another aspect worth noting is their prices, which are really affordable. In-person classes are around $75 to $85 plus HST per person—that’s less than a hundred!

Roll This Way has a spacious studio, which allows them to cater to more students in each class. Despite having several tables in the studio, each student can still follow the instructions, all thanks to the projector that’s set up for everyone to see.

Pros

  • Chef is 2x “Chef of the Year”
  • Has state-of-the-art appliances
  • Huge space
  • Offers a very hands-on class
  • Prices are reasonable

Cons

  • Limited classes per month
  • Slot availability is limited

Cirillo’s Academy was founded by John Cirillo, who earned the title “Chef of the Year” twice in Toronto by the Escoffier Society. Working under him is a team of incredible individuals who are experts in a diverse range of cuisines.

One of our most favourite aspects is the space where cooking classes are held. It’s big, bright, and spacious enough to accommodate many students.

Additionally, it’s got state-of-the-art kitchen appliances to cook up a storm. But one of the best parts is there are five cooking centers that are so big there’s no need to worry about ingredients and tools spilling off the counter.

Media credit: cirillos.academy

Something we’d like to highlight is their Run to the Market class. Here, the chef and students will go to St. Lawrence Market and pick out the ingredients.

Not a lot of Toronto cooking classes offer this kind of experience, which is why it caught our attention fast!

We also want to mention that for a very hands-on experience, we were surprised at the price. Their Run to the Market class starts at $150 plus tax, which we found reasonable considering it’s a very educational and engaging class.

However, we’re quite disappointed that Cirillo’s Academy only has three programs—which isn’t a lot. But the upside of that is they are very thorough and are available in different types of cuisine each month, like Italian and Spanish.

Also, there are only around three to four classes each month, which means limited slots.
