Furthermore, we were in awe upon learning they originally started in 1906. That’s an impressive 117 years—that’s at least a century!

Now, they act as a one-stop destination for land surveying and mapping needs. The convenience they provide is definitely worth mentioning.

Another convenient aspect we found is their coverage area. They work with clients all over Winnipeg—available for small residential and large commercial projects.

In fact, Barnes & Duncan: Surveying, Geomatics, & Engineering has worked on big projects Winipeggers usually come across. So, who are these clients, and why did we need to mention them?

Their land surveying clients include the CentrePort Canada Way (also known as Manitoba Highway 190), Bipole III (direct current transmission line delivering southern Manitoba’s renewable energy), and areas affected by the 2011 Lake Manitoba Flooding.

From our perspective, the trust these clients have placed in them reflects their significant expertise. These are big and important clients, after all.

While the prices will depend on various factors, we found Barnes & Duncan slightly more expensive than other land surveying services in Winnipeg. 

Nonetheless, we think they make up for it through their effective service. Their professionalism deserves praise, as mentioned by previous clients, particularly due to their consistent delivery of thorough and precise documents. 

Lawson Consulting & Surveying started in 2004. With almost two decades of experience, we admire how many big clients they’ve served.

Furthermore, we found their client list pretty vast and impressive! They worked with Manitoba Hydro, Nelson River Construction, EPCOR Utilities, AECOM, and several municipal governments.

Another worth mentioning is they work on First Nations projects. In fact, Lawson Consulting & Surveying is an indigenous-owned and operated company, and we commend their support of many First Nations communities.

We also like how they work with different industries, such as mining, gas, and construction. For us, this speaks about their skills in land surveying. 

However, we noticed their services are pretty limited compared to other land surveyors in Winnipeg. They mainly focus on construction and topographic surveys.

The silver lining we found is their ability to work on both small and large jobs. Despite their busy schedules, it surprised us they still accept residential land surveys.

In addition, we commend Lawson Consulting & Surveying for their prompt response. Even during a large construction survey, witnessing their dedication to small residential land surveys was amazing.

The last notable feature we found is their competitive pricing. Land survey prices depend on the location and property size, but we admire their ability to keep costs down.

Phillips & Stevens, founded in 1978, focuses on land and industrial surveying. For us, their over four decades in the industry speaks about their high level of expertise.

A favourite of ours is their client focus. We like that they cater to public and private clients, making them reachable to many in Winnipeg.

Plus, they serve clients in remote areas in Manitoba. Not all land surveyors do, so this is commendable!

Another thing we like is their scope of services. Apart from surveying, they also do land subdivision design, industrial site control surveys, and deformation monitoring.

Besides those, we want to highlight Phillips & Stevens for their use of state-of-the-art technology. They use laser scanning, high-accuracy GPS, and 3D visualization.

Moreover, the technology they use ensures efficiency and better accuracy. Those are essential in land surveys, earning them points in our book!

On top of that, using cutting-edge technology helps with cost-effectiveness due to its efficiency. That’s really helpful for clients with tight budgets—more points, again!

We also want to applaud Phillips & Stevens’s commitment to a safe work environment. Since their founding year, they haven’t had any major worksite accidents! *knock on wood*

Lastly, we hope Phillips & Stevens will include a list of their clients in the future as part of their portfolio. For us, that’s something potential clients look for when determining which land surveyor to hire in Winnipeg.

What we like about Stevens Surveys is their years of experience. Established in 1970, they’ve been around long enough to acquire vast skills!

We also appreciate them for catering to the whole province of Manitoba. And it’s a plus they also serve Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, making them an accessible service in remote areas.

Notably, some projects they worked on were the University of Manitoba, the Assiniboine Park, and the Canoe Club Condominium. We think their expertise in both urban and remote projects is truly noteworthy.

From what we’ve seen, Stevens Surveys specializes in land surveys and geomatics services. However, we noticed they mostly cater to large projects, which is a downside for clients who need small jobs.

On a good note, we appreciate them for providing a personalized service. It’s notable that each client will only have one contact. Why is that a good thing?

We found having one contact helpful because there’s no need to talk to multiple people. It can prevent miscommunication, too, don’t you think?

Another aspect we appreciate is their innovation. In fact, they use HDS, or high-definition surveying, which accurately captures detailed shapes of targeted objects.

What’s even better is the HDS results in a fast turnaround time, which means a more cost-effective job. That’s definitely good news, especially for your wallet!

What’s so impressive about GeoVerra? They’re one of the largest geomatics firms in Canada!

In fact, they have such a wide client reach, including other cities and provinces. For us, that shows their expertise in different areas—an important factor!

It’s also a positive aspect in our books that they work in various industries. Some of these include construction, mining, industrial, and energy!

However, we noticed they focus more on large projects. So, if you need a land surveyor for your residential property, you may need to look elsewhere.

On the upside, we like their vast services, from surveying to land development and planning. It shouldn’t have been surprising, given their wide coverage area!

It’s notable that GeoVerra is technologically advanced, especially compared to other land surveyors in Winnipeg. They don’t stick to one or two solutions but use various ones for a more effective job!

Furthermore, they use mobile mapping systems, terrestrial laser scanning, unmanned aerial vehicles, and ground-penetrating radar technology. They have more, and these provide precise mapping and surveying—highly effective, no?

It’s also worth mentioning that they have one for each sector due to the numerous technologies they use. As a result, they can provide cost-effective solutions and a faster turnaround time! Nice, eh?

But we’re just pretty bummed that GeoVerra is pretty new to the industry, compared to the others in this list. Their founding year was in 2020, so that means they have less than five years of experience as a company.

Nonetheless, everything else about them is impressive – especially their track record, so we’re confident that they can deliver!
